Biography:

Research Interests: David's research focuses on communication between regions in the auditory neural pathway while attentively listening to sounds or while the sounds play in the background. To measure the activity from specific regions, like brainstem or auditory cortex, we analyze specific oscillatory responses in brain wave activity using EEG. Using a directional predictive analysis called symbolic transfer entropy we can measure how much these signals influence each other under different states of attention and in what direction (e.g., does the brain stem influence auditory cortex more when sounds play in the background ?). The goal is to further our understanding how information flows within auditory neural networks and what factors influences the information flow.
